Hills and Sunshine

Within our world today, we are constantly encouraged to agree and adopt new trends or new opinions that occur continuously without questioning the truth behind the new statement.

See one thing about trends or opinions, is that they are temporary rather than foundational. Foundation is what will keep you when the storms of life come your way. Building a solid foundation on the Word of God is key to living a life on a firm foundation, rather than a temporary infrastructure.

If you base your decisions on other people’s thoughts without seeking God, you will live a life of constant change and your life will be based on people’s decisions about your life.

Yet, people often feel the need to seek the approval of others or to seek their thoughts when God is guiding them in a certain direction.

If you believe the Lord is leading you in a particular direction, you don’t need the approval of others to do what he may have spoken to you.

In a world that often makes decisions based on opinions, you don’t need someone’s permission to obey God!

Side note: I’m not implying you don’t seek Godly counsel, rather I’m saying you don’t need people who aren’t seeking God with you, their permission to obey Him.

God may ask you to do some things that don’t make any sense to others, but obedience to Him is worth far more than the acceptance of people.

A prime example is the story of Noah. The Lord told Noah to build an ark, and that the rain would come. Noah had a clear direction from God, and Noah obeyed him.

“Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth, was corrupt. So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth!

“Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing that breathes. Everything on earth will die. But I will confirm my covenant with you. So enter the boat—you and your wife and your sons and their wives. Bring a pair of every kind of animal—a male and a female—into the boat with you to keep them alive during the flood.

Pairs of every kind of bird, and every kind of animal, and every kind of small animal that scurries along the ground, will come to you to be kept alive. And be sure to take on board enough food for your family and for all the animals.” So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.”

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭6:11-13, 17-22‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You see Noah did not seek the approval nor opinions of the people because God gave Noah a specific mission with detailed instructions.

The people in that generation most likely believed Noah was out of his mind.

They most likely talked about him and shamed him for believing the rain was coming. But Noah believed God and obey him. His obedience to God outweighed the people’s thoughts.

If we are seeking the opinions of people rather than what the Lord says, we have placed those individuals as idols, and they have become our God.

“You must not have any other god but me.” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If you have allowed other people’s opinions to be the final the say about what God may be speaking to you, I admonished you to find a quiet place to pray and ask the Lord for forgiveness.

Don’t allow people to become a voice greater than God’s!

You don’t need people’s permission to serve and obey God!
